GT Contact, our innovative Taiwanese manufacturer for rugged waterproof connector systems, introduces a new storage medium panelmount microSD card holder according to IP68.

Typically, SD cards are used in non-critical environments, as memory cards e.g. in mobile phones, tablets as well as in digital cameras.

However, there are also applications, especially in harsh environments, that require waterproof and dustproof housings to protect the electronics. In most cases, it is necessary to open the housing to change the memory card. This exposes the electronics to the weather conditions, even if only for a short time.

The new microSD card holder from GT Contact solves this problem, because the GT2MSD01P1 is specified as waterproof and dustproof, according to IP68. Since the connector's die-cast zinc housing is fully potted, IP68 is met even without an optional protective cap.

The microSD card is inserted and removed from the memory card holder by means of a push-pull mechanism: the card is thus held securely, and the optional protective cap with or without a retaining chain additionally secures the inserted card against external environmental influences.

The first applications are high-quality camcorders for animal and object observation, for sewer inspections, and for outdoor filming. Other areas of application will be industrial control systems, measuring instruments and devices for construction and agricultural engineering. The use in robust IPCs as well as in military applications is also conceivable.
