Pin Count Expansion for MX80 Series Waterproof Automotive Connectors
JAE has expanded its MX80 Series of compact, waterproof in-line connectors for automotive applications by adding a 12 position option to the existing lineup of 2, 3, 4, and 6 position lineup. An 8 position option is also under development and is scheduled for future release.
Due to the advancement of ADAS, infotainment, and powertrain electrification, the number of ECUs and electronic devices being incorporated within vehicles is increasing. This is driving the need for compact connectors which can fit in limited spaces. To meet this demand, JAE has been offering the compact and waterproof MX80 Series connectors in 2 to 6 positions. These products have been well-received not only by automobile manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers, but also by manufacturers of outdoor mobility equipment such as motorcycles, agricultural machinery, and construction machinery, where waterproof connectors are essential.
To meet diverse needs for various applications, a new 12 position type has been added to the MX80 Series lineup. Together with the 8 position type which is currently under development, the range of pin count options is being expanded. For the 8 and 12 position types, the contacts are arranged in two rows to minimize the width of the connectors. Additionally, the design incorporates a shroud over the sealing ring, which ensures a watertight interface when the connector is mated, to prevent dust and other foreign contaminants from adhering to the sealing ring.
The MX80 Series is compliant with IP67 ingress protection rating (with an optional IPX9K type available) and features high reliability characteristics that meet the USCAR-2 (*) standard. By adopting a front retainer, the MX80 Series can detect incomplete insertion of terminals, preventing harness assembly errors. Additionally, the distinct clicking sound confirms secure mating, enhancing usability and contributing to improved workability for customers.
This Series employs the same crimp socket terminals as the non-waterproof MX81 Series, making it compatible with a wide range of wire sizes. Using the same highly reliable terminals makes it possible to use the terminals in both waterproof and non-waterproof areas of the vehicles. We will continue to expand the variations of the MX80 Series, alongside the MX81 Series, by developing more pin count options and adding various modified types to meet the diverse needs of our customers.
